I wrote a new poem last night! Forget what I said in my first entry about posting only once a week or so…positive posts could pop up at any time. You’ve been warned!
Yesterday evening I attended an evening worship service with another congregation that uses our church facility. The message actually coincided with my last blog post, focusing on our identity in Christ, but taking a step back: before we can claim it and trust Him to lead us, we must believe that He is who He says He is. Many folks wrestle with what to believe, and in fact have erroneous notions of what He is like as a result of negative experiences in life. To top it off, we live in a fallen, imperfect world and may not always be rescued from evil. Yet it doesn’t change who God is. He loves the world and wants everyone to find life and hope in His Son (2 Peter 3:9). For those who do, God uses all things – even those meant for evil – for our good, carrying us through adversity, if we let Him (Romans 8:28).
Don’t Give Up
The one thing that stuck out to me during the service last night? Don’t give up! We all get discouraged at times, taking our eyes off Jesus; and like Peter, we start sinking into the stormy seas of doubt (Matthew 14:30). We forget the calling, forget that when we become followers of Jesus, the power that raised Christ from the dead resides in us…even in me!
On my way home from the service in the waning evening light, I reveled at the lengths the God of the Universe has gone to come alongside me: strengthening, reassuring and inspiring me – especially during very difficult times this past year – because I trust Him. Filled with thankful awe, I wrote this poem last night:
“Keep Sharing” (or “So The World May Know”)
I’ve come so far, now as I look back,
God’s still in control – I’m right on track.
From the shadows of doubt into sweet light –
Identity reclaimed, faith glowing bright.
In rare moments, like Peter, I start to sink;
Refocusing on Christ transforms how I think:
Renewed heart and mind, in awe of His glory.
With joy, I’ll continue telling my story,
My life’s hymn of hope and perfect peace from above
to a world that is hurting and in need of God’s love.
Yes, progress has been made, but much more to go;
By grace, I’ll keep sharing, so the world may know
the blessings I’ve found are there for them too –
I pray that all see Jesus in everything I do.

I confess that there have been moments of doubt since starting this blog. I constantly have to remind myself that God called me to this endeavor, and my job is to follow His lead. I am pretty tech-savvy, and even have prior experience with web design, but the blogging arena is a new adventure for me. I’m still getting used to my newest title as a blogger, and I’m sure it will get easier as I go. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
